Carrier air conditioners are some of the most popular central air conditioning systems in the United States, particularly on new construction homes. But, how do they measure up? Are they energy efficient enough to be competitive?
How are the price points? And, most importantly, how does Carrier measure up as a company in terms of customer service and product guarantees?

Energy Efficiency
Carrier’s Infinity system is its more energy-efficient model. It has a rating of 21 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), which is a measurement of how efficient the unit is at cooling air. The higher the SEER number, the more efficient the unit and 21 SEER is very high.
However, with that energy efficiency comes a hefty price tag and prospective Carrier customers shouldn’t confuse one product line’s energy efficiency with another’s. For example, Carrier’s ComfortSeries air conditioners (which are its cheapest and often most popular) have a SEER rating of just 14, not very high in comparison.
So, while Carrier may earn a high score on its energy-efficient products, buyers should investigate each product individually.
Innovative Technology
When it comes to innovative technology, Carrier is at the forefront of the residential HVAC world. Their Hybrid heat models are making major waves. The units use two heating sources, or hybrid technology, and use the most efficient energy source to either heat or cool the air.
With rising fuel prices, it’s products like these that could be the most economical choice.
Price
Typically, Carrier air conditioners and systems are more expensive than other brands. You can expect to pay between 10 to 20 percent over what you would pay for a generic brand. Prices are going to vary depending on the type of system, your geographical location, the load on the system and numerous other variables.
To avoid overpaying, always get at least three quotes and look for a HVAC contractor and Carrier vendor that will help you with any pertinent tax credits or rebates for purchasing energy-efficient equipment.
Warranty
Most of the Carrier products come with a 10-year compressor warranty and a 5-year limited parts warranty. What’s important to note here is that it’s just parts that are covered, meaning you be on the hook for the labor.
Carrier, like so many other companies, has subscribed to Extended Warranty game, meaning you have to pay extra to get a longer warranty and the guarantee that labor repair costs will be covered.
And while having to pay even more for an extended warranty is like a slap in face, Carrier at least makes theirs transferable – meaning it can add to the resale value of your house.

The reason Carrier air conditioners continue to do so well goes beyond the product and right to the company’s high level of customer service. From their easy-to-navigate website to their friendly customer service staff, this is where Carrier’s air conditioning products score the highest.
