Product Comparison of Cheap, Yet Powerful Portable Air Conditioners

Cheap portable air conditioners don’t have to be low-quality. For an overview and product comparison of some of the best brands at the lowest prices, keep reading.

Amcor ALW 1200E Portable Air Conditioner

Basics: The Amcor is one of the most popular selling models on Amazon and Lowes. The unit is powerful, yet affordable and typically retails for about $420

Pros: The Amcor has two great things going for it – its affordable price and its range. As far as cheap portable air conditioners go, it’s definitely the most powerful unit in its price class.

The unit can cool an area of up to 350 square feet. That’s a decent sized living area if you have an open floor plan or a larger room. It also comes with a remote control and built in dehumidifier.

Cons: The biggest complaint about the Amcor ALW 1200E is the noise. This is a loud portable air conditioner and could be annoying if you’re using it in a bedroom or a living room when you’re trying to watch television or listen to music.

Haier HPE 07XC6

Basics: If you’re looking for cheap portable air conditioners, the Haier HPE 07XC6 definitely fits the bill. The unit usually retails for an average price of about $350.

Pros: If you only need a small unit that’s affordable and portable, the Haier is great. It only covers about 150 square feet, but that’s perfect for a bedroom or a small living room.

The unit also provides three distinct cooling and dehumidifying functions along with varying speeds and temperature levels.

Cons: The size is definitely a drawback. If you’re looking for cheap portable air conditioners that can cover a lot of area, this isn’t it. At a cooling coverage area of 150 square feet, the Haier is best for small rooms and enclosed spaces.  Also, it can be somewhat noisy.

Sharp CV-P12LX

Basics: This is a big portable air conditioner designed to cover a lot of area. It retails for an average of $650.

Pros: The biggest advantage of the Sharp is its coverage area. The unit can cool up to 400 square feet. It’s also very quiet, particularly when compared to other, cheaper portable air conditioners.

Cons: There are two major drawbacks for the Sharp. The first is the price – at $650, it’s significantly more expensive than the Amcor unit, but only provides an extra 50 square feet of coverage.

The second drawback is the control panel. The unit can only be controlled via remote control, meaning there are no controls on the actual unit itself – a huge liability if you ever lose the remote.

Royal Sovereign ARP1000ES

Basics: This is a tiny unit that’s definitely portable, but with a price tag of $500, it’s hard to justify the cost for its mere 200 square feet of cooling coverage.

Pros: The biggest advantage behind the Royal Sovereign is its small size and quiet operation. This is a quiet and portable unit that does the job.

Cons: Unfortunately, out of all the cheap portable air conditioners, the Sovereign provides the second least amount of coverage (200 square feet) for one of the highest price tags ($500).
