Match Your LED Lighting to Your Home’s Style
The overall style of your LED landscape lighting should match the style and design of your home, both inside and out. You want to use lighting that’s going to accentuate your home’s architecture, not detract away from it.
For example, if your home is a beautiful Victorian-style house, then putting up contemporary-style LED landscape lighting is going to look awkward and give your lawn a flea-market look.
Match the Lights to Your Home’s Color Palette
Along with your home’s style, you want to be matching its color palette. For example, if your home’s exterior palette is warm, then you likely want to choose fixtures that are bronze or brown.
Alternatively, if your house is painted in a cool palette, then you may want to look at LED landscape lights that feature brushed nickel fixtures.
Choose the Right Sized Lantern
If you’re considering converting your porch lights to an LED system, make sure you buy the right size. Too often, homeowners buy lanterns or porch lights that are either way too big or far too small.
Ideally, you want to choose a porch light that’s at least a third the size of your door. It seems big, but it’s the perfect size for adequately lighting the path and also creating some serious curbside appeal. If you’re installing two LED lanterns on either side of the door, go down to about a quarter of the door size.
Don’t be Afraid of Trends
You shouldn’t be afraid to incorporate trends into your outdoor LED lighting decor. Some really hot trends right now are crystals and floating LED lights in outdoor pools or water features.
Try a Softer Light
Too many people invest in low-powered LED lighting and opt for the bright-white standard-issue LED lights. Instead, give your lighting a warmer look with yellowed lights or ones that are encased in frosted glass.
It will give your home a softer and more welcoming feel.
Don’t Be Afraid of Multiple Lights
You may be worried that putting up too many lights could give your house a Christmas-decoration effect, but it’s all about balance. A few LED porch lights coupled with some small lights up the driveway can really showcase your home and your landscaping without going over the top.
