Malibu Solar Lights are a company at the forefront of the outdoor solar lighting world. They make a range of innovative products designed for a spectrum of budgets. Below is an overview and review of some of their newest and most popular products. Malibu High Intensity Solar Flood Light Floodlights that run on solar power aren't new, but Malibu's High Intensity Flood Light (LZ605) has some features that are. It has a 20-ft.-long cord, so you call place the solar panel in the sun, then put the light anywhere you want, including in the shade. The solar panel charges the batteries, which then power the light for up to 10 hours at a time, depending on the brightness setting. Twelve power-sipping LED bulbs then provide a bright, white light and stay lit much longer than conventional battery-powered bulbs. The solar flood light ($50) is available at Home Depot and Lowe's and other major retailers. Malibu Floating Solar Lights For shimmering glamour, float the Malibu Solar Floating Light in the pool. The downside of these beauties is that it takes several to make a dramatic effect, but at close to $30 a pop, that can get expensive, especially when you compare them to $1 votive candles. If floating lights are a design concept you want to revisit year after year, they’re worth the long-term investment. Otherwise, stick with the candles. Cast Metal Malibu Solar Lights Where Malibu really made its mark in the solar lighting industry is when it started making solar lights that were actually attractive. Their cast metal accent solar lights are designed to light a walkway or a garden and to do it with glass. Though definitely more expensive, they outshine cheaper stake-in-the-ground models made from plastic and sub-standard materials. In contrast, the Malibu cast metal solar lights are made with pro-grade cast metal and genuine glass fixtures, a welcome change amongst all the cheaper alternatives. Malibu Four Paths Solar Light Kit What sets this particular product apart from the competition is its use of a remote solar panel which can be installed on a roof or other sunny location. It’s great if you want to light up a shaded garden path – just put the panel in a sunny spot and wire up your lights. That said, these Malibu solar lighting kits take away some of the appeal of solar lighting. That is, you have to wire them. Most consumers like that they don’t have to run wiring over or under the ground to their solar lighting system. Malibu Solar Tiki Torches Tacky and ugly, the Malibu Solar Island Torches are definitely a miss. Made from plastic and featuring a flickering LED light that’s supposed to resemble a flame, these are a poor replacement for the real deal. If you really want to sport the Tiki Torch look, opt instead for the real thing because these Malibu Solar Lights aren’t cutting it. See also: All Articles for Energy Savings Options
