Waste oil heater systems are an efficient, safe way to heat your home while conserving resources. It's a great addition to any home that is looking for new ways to go green and save energy.

While a waste oil heater isn't going to replace your home furnace, it is a good alternative to a space heater or additional radiator. It's possible to build a waste oil heater yourself, but there are lots of great brand name heaters that you can rely on, too.

Clean Burn

The leading manufacturer of waste oil heaters, Pennsylvania's Clean Burn Energy Systems is committed to setting the standard for using waste for home heat. Their research and development finds new ways to recycle things like used motor oil.

It was during the 1970s gas and fuel crisis that Clean Burn started making prototypes for today waste oil heater lines. The technology has changed a lot, but the idea is still the same: reduce the need for new fuel by reusing and recycling old oil.

Omni Waste Oil Fired Appliances

EconoHeat makes the Omni Waste Oil Fired Appliances line, which has the very first portable infrared waste oil heater. This is basically a radiant space heater that, while similar to every other space heater, uses recycled oil.

There are a few other products in the Omni Alternative Energy systems line, too. They make a standard waste oil heater, waste oil hot water boilers and even waste oil air conditioners.

What's great about all these products is that because they use recycled oil, they are basically creating free heat, hot water and air conditioning for users. And what's better than free? Nothing!

Reznor

With a product line that includes space heaters, ductable furnaces, boilers and combination space heater/ductable furnaces, Reznor is yet another company that is committed to recycling used oil for heating. They have ten models in total, all with warrantees.

Reznor has been in business since 1888. Coupled with their history is their look to the future. They are constantly doing research and development to improve their products.

Safety is Important

When you are looking to buy a waste oil heater, regardless of the brand you should make sure that what you are getting has been certified by a reputable environmental protection organization.

Waste oil heaters need to pass tests by the Environmental Protection agency, so look for their certification.

You should also look to see that your waste oil heater has been certified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. That certification is a benchmark in safety when it comes to a waste oil heater.
